Clear Up Your Skin: Part 1

Our skin is our largest and most visible organ. So it's not surprising that the inside health of our body is directly reflected on our outer most layer - our skin. Each bite of food you eat and every sip of liquid you take literally turns into you day after day. In fact, your skin cells completely turn over and create a new you approximately every 28 days. So the YOU of today is not the same you as last month.

How's that for fascinating?

With that knowledge in mind, doesn't it make sense that rather than slathering more hydrocortisone cream or popping more antibiotics or worse, taking Accutane to fix your skin problems, you look at your diet? No offence to Dermatologists, but truly if they started talking to their patients about nutrition instead of writing prescriptions, they would have far fewer patients and much happier glowy sexy people!

I'm a classic example of a dermatology-failure. As a teen I had eczema on my hands and in the winter they would actually crack open and bleed (PAINFUL) - the prescription creams never resolved it. Once I educated myself on the healing benefits of food and supplements, I started taking an omega 3 in my smoothie, vitamin D drops and probiotics, plus changed my diet (over time). Guess what? My eczema completely disappeared.

In addition to this, for many years I had "dermatitis" under my nose. My dermatologist gave me a hydrocortisone cream for that too. I applied it every day religiously and it did nothing other than get worse! I asked her countless times what the root cause was and she never had an answer. She was always so quick to rush me out of her office with another refill of my prescription. Years later the redness is under control because I eat very anti-inflammatory diet and I completely stopped my ALL-Bran and Bran Flakes with cow's milk every morning. However, I suffer the side effects of years of abuse of those nasty creams.

I could give you Clearing Up Your Skin.

Be joyous,

Joy

Ditch the dairy - does that include kefir?

Hey Joy! Great post, and so true! Probiotics and Omega 3 work like a charm to help promote beautiful skin from the inside out! I was curious what the brand of Probiotics you use, as shown in your video? Thanks a bunch! Judy :)

I'm so happy you did a post on this Joy! I had no idea that you had suffered from eczema as well. I had a major outbreak on my hands last October just like you explained in this post and that's when I knew I had to be more committed to a healthier lifestyle/diet. No dairy for this girl! :) Great tips love! Definitely reassured me that I'm on the right path. XOXO

Would you recommend all of these things for teens with acne as well? Why vitamin D DROPS?

Hi Joy, great post! Do probiotics work for psoriasis as well and which brand do you recommend?

Good post! I have suggestions too, but since you titled that "part 1" I'll wait to see if you talk about them in subsequent posts. Admittedly, I occasionally use the lowest possible dose of cortisone, and it works.

Hi Joy! I watched your video on supplements for skin, should one take probiotics on an EMPTY stomach, or with a meal? As well, I noticed you stated you completely stopped eating All- Bran Bran flakes with cow's milk. I recognize what's wrong with dairy and have cut it out of my diet about a year ago, but is there anything wrong with All-Bran Bran Flakes?

My children eat cereal and milk (cow's) and would love an alternative. I have tried goat's milk as an alternative. I have looked for Almond milk but without success because it does not seem pure. 1. Is goat's milk ok and which brand of Almond milk is out there? Many thanks! By the way, your site has been life changing and totally inspirational!

Does yogourt not contain probiotics or does this have to be taken in pill format?

Excellent point about cutting the dairy! This is one of the first things I always mention. Good suggestion about omega 3s and probiotics. I'm going to have to remember those!

Hi joyous- I recently got my mother to try this cream for her psoriasis instead of the steroid creams she uses. I get that using creams won't get to the root of the issue but for people that are also looking for a good topical- I really am impressed by a line of products called clineral by teva (subsidiary of ahava). They use dead sea minerals to clear up chronic skin conditions like seborrhea , eczema, psoriasis and contact dermatis . There are no parabens or steroids but it's not every ingredient is natural. Curious what you think! The company will likely mail you samples from Israel. They really work.

I had a problem with eczema on my nose and forehead. After using Foderma Serum for a week, it's gone. I've used expensive prescription shampoos and creams before and this does every bit as well and costs much less. Some people are a little put off by the smell, but I actually found it kind of pleasant. Very satisfied.
