The best way to get unbelievably healthy skin is to feed it skin-food, and by "food" I actually mean feed it REAL food. Gone are the days when frou-frou, nauseatingly perfumed European product lines take precedence in spas and on cosmetic counters, with ingredient lists that are unintelligible and require someone in a white lab coat to tell you what it means. Using real, edible ingredients in your skincare will not only make understanding your products a whole lot easier, but can make lasting changes in the quality of your skin.

Here are five of my favourite edible ingredients:

Seaweed: It’s incredibly rich in minerals and vitamins, and even contains omega fatty acids. Seaweed is an amazing ingredient for hydrating and plumping the skin making it ideal for treating dehydrated or dry skin.

Honey: It’s a humectant (which means it attracts moisture) and is naturally antibacterial. Honey can help soothe inflammation, redness, and infections making it perfect for sensitive skin, sunburns, and combating breakouts.

Kale: The trendiest food on the market is also an incredible ingredient for your skin! This king of the veggie world is extremely high in both Vitamin A and C, which are some of the most important vitamins for anti-aging. Not only that, it’s incredibly detoxifying and can help clear the complexion while fighting fine lines and wrinkles.

Wild Blueberry: The super version of it’s conventionally grown cousin, is packed full of free-radical fighting anti-oxidants which combat wrinkles, sagging skin, and dark spots, caused by too much sun and environmental factors. Perfect for anti-aging and hyper pigmentation.

Vanilla: Most widely recognized as the alcohol-laden version used in baking, it’s actually extremely healing and soothing for the skin. In its pure form, vanilla is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, making it perfect for both healing blemishes and preventing them!

So, how do you actually incorporate these ingredients into your skincare routine? More and more natural skincare lines are adding these important super foods into their product formulations; Graydon’s Green Cream is a great example! Keep an eye out for these edible miracle workers the next time you are shopping. My favourite way to use these ingredients is in raw super food facemasks that I customize and whip up for my clients. It’s often the simplest skincare that can be the most effective!

This fall Seanna has launched a pop-up facial bar at the Joyous Health Headquarters! Each treatment includes a skin consultation and holistic facial using Toronto-based Graydon skincare as the signature product line.

The response for this offering has been overwhelming and all spaces are now booked, but stay tuned because there are more spots coming soon! Ifyou would like to be on the mailing list to receive updates and information about upcoming dates, please email: Seanna (at) elodiebeauty (dot) com.

I love this post. I mean, I have a better understanding now about food for the skin and I really believe in it. We must really take care of our skin the most effective way possible and we can only do it by getting the right products and ingredients it needs to make it healthier and glowing. Thanks for giving us an idea about it.
