Triple Berry Power+ Smoothie

Apr 7, 2012 BY Joy McCarthy

I've been on a smoothie kick lately! Mainly because I've been inspired by some new ingredients I've started using in my joyous kitch. Last week it was a Butterscotch Chocolate Ripple Smoothie with lucuma and today it's a triple berry smoothie. This smoothie was fibre dense, fat-burning, beautifying and detoxifying. Plus, it was fresh and vibrant.

The three ingredients that gave it triple power were Mum's goji berries, frozen organic raspberries and greens+ acai & mango.

It was my first time using greens+ acai & mango, but I was so impressed by the superstar ingredient list including organic spirulina, that I had to share the health benefits of this power-packed supplement:

Spirulina

High in beta-carotene. Studies show that this antioxidant prevents many forms of cancer.

High in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid, sometimes called Vitamin F.

Spirulina contains essential fatty acids from the Omega 3 and Omega 6 groups, plus other necessary fatty acids, glycolipids and sulfolipids.

Organic Carrot

Contain carotenes that give carrots their orange colour, especially alpha- and beta-carotenes, as well as vitamin A which has antioxidant properties and is effective for treating vitamin A deficiency.

Contains Vitamin K, dietary fibre, potassium, vitamin B6 and many other nutrients.

Organic Apple - my fave ingredient!

Binds excess artery-clogging cholesterol and removes it from the bowel - hurray for healthy bowel movements!

Helps to block the absorption of toxic heavy metals and dietary carcinogens that enter the food chain and eventually our systems.

Sunflower Lecithin

Lecithin may account for 15% of the greens+ antioxidant activity.

One serving of our greens+ O supplies 1,100mg of lecithin providing 550mg of phosphatidylcholine (PC) - essential for nervous system function - wowsa! This is seriously brain-boosting.

Organic Broccoli & Broccoli Sprout

Includes high levels of vitamin C, K, folate and vitamin A.

Contains compounds which support all steps in body's detox process, including activation, neutralization, and elimination of unwanted contaminants.  These metabolic processes prevent cancer.

The goji berries and raspberries I added into this smoothie gave it a huge vitamin C boost! Vitamin C is essential for detoxification, tissue rebuilding and repair, skin health and keeping your immune system strong.

Let's get right to the ingredients:

1/4 cup goji berries

1/2 cup frozen organic raspberries

1 scoop of greens+ acai & mango

1 frozen banana

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 scoop of vanilla plant-based protein powder. I use Sunwarrior for this recipe

Almond milk: I filled up the jug just enough to cover the ingredients.

Blend on high for 30-60 seconds. And of course, enjoy it in a Mason jar with your glass straw! :)

This made about 1.5 cups of smoothie.

EnJOY!

When you use Goji Berries, are they dried? Do you soak them in luke water before you used them in a shake? Thanks :)
