Bone Boosting Foods!

Jul 23, 2009 BY Joy McCarthy

NEWS FLASH: Calcium is not the only mineral in bone, despite the dairy industry wanting us to believe so. Yes it is important, but your bones are composed of 12 different minerals such as potassium, magnesium and sodium to name a few.

It is important to protect yourself from osteoporosis by eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure you are getting a good range of different minerals.

Here are my 3 favourite BONE BOOSTERS:

RAW SEEDS. Robert Thompson M.D. and auther of "The Calcium Lie" (InTruth Press 2008) says that just one forth of a cup of sunflower or pumpkin seeds a day provides selenium, zinc, iron and of course essential fatty acids.

SEA SALT. Use this mineral-dense salt liberally, it contains the perfect combination of minerals your bones need. Contrary to popular belief, sea salt does not raise your blood pressure because it is such a rich source of minerals. Unlike table salt that is processed, bleached, chemically treated and the only mineral remaining is sodium with added iodine - not a good choice for anyone.

CHOOSE ORGANIC. Studies prove that now more than ever, we must choose organic fruits and vegetables to get a variety of minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium and so on. In fact, a study in 2007 conducted by the European Union confirmed that on average, organic foods contained 40% more minerals. Conventionally farmed produce is sprayed with a cocktail of chemicals that a cockroach wouldn't even accept.

Happy Day!
