When spending time with others, consider skipping perfume or cologne. Many people are sensitive to strong scents (like me!), which may trigger migraines and other unwanted symptoms. Beyond that, synthetic fragrances often contain hormone-disrupting chemicals like phthalates and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.
Instead, opt for natural body care products with light, plant-based scents—or go fragrance-free! It’s a thoughtful way to help keep the air comfortable for everyone while reducing your exposure to potentially harmful ingredients.
I completely understand that not everyone wants to go scent-free. Sometimes, a beautiful aroma feels like a little everyday luxury. That’s why I love making my own natural perfume! Here’s a quick and easy recipe for a customizable, toxin-free fragrance using essential oils. It’s simple, natural, and smells absolutely delightful.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp organic jojoba oil or liquid coconut oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 5 drops sweet orange essential oil
- 3 drops vanilla essential oil (optional for a warm touch)
- Small glass roller bottle (10 mL size works perfectly. I use these ones.)
Instructions:
- Pour the jojoba or coconut oil into the roller bottle.
- Add your essential oils. Feel free to adjust the number of drops to suit your scent preference!
- Secure the roller ball and cap, then gently shake to combine.
- Apply to pulse points like your wrists, neck, or behind your ears for a subtle, natural fragrance.
Tips for Customization:
- For a fresh, uplifting scent, try lemon and rosemary.
- For a floral blend, mix rose, jasmine, and bergamot.
- For something grounding, go with sandalwood, patchouli, and cedarwood.
Enjoy your signature scent, free of synthetic chemicals!

Hey Joy, how do you keep your home smelling fresh?
Thank you,
Melanie
We only use beeswax or scent-free candles and we have a really good quality air purifier that runs 24/7. We also open the windows to get fresh air to keep the microbiome in our home healthy.
I’m new to essential oils and diy .
I was told something like 5%dilution for 10ml. So like 15 drops??
The recipe above how does it smell?? Fruity??
