A common question I get asked is what my morning routine looks like. I thought it would be fun to film a short video about it.
Mornings are sacred to me. I LOVE the morning and I do my best not to schedule anything before 9am because I don't like to rush this time. I need time to eat breakfast in peace, poop (yep, I said it) and spend time with Walker and Vienna before starting my work day.
That's about the extent of my morning before work. As much as I would like to have time to meditate, do yoga, or go to the gym - realistically, just having breakfast, pooping and spending time with my family is pretty much what I accomplish. Oh, and of course, if you've watched my video on my daily detox ritualsyou already know what I do when I wake up before my feet even touch the floor. Hint: It's a skin beauty secret!
When I watched the rough edit of this video, I will admit... I was embarrassed because I literally just woke up and well... I look like it.
I didn't want to post it, but after some convincing from my hubs, we decided to post it. So now you know what I look like after rolling out of bed. I did manage to put some mascara on and brush my teeth though, lol.
Have a joyous rest of your week!
Joy

I would call your morning smoothie...."Lola Smoothie".
ReplyHey Francine, Love that! :) Thanks for the reco! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy, love the video! can I have the Greens Original or Greens Fermented while breastfeeding? Thanks!
ReplyHey Whittney, Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :) We would advise against Greens while breastfeeding just because it contains herbs that may be too potent for your babe. But you're more than welcome to use Greens Kids (http://www.genuinehealth.com/store/greens-kids#.WTqm2zKZN_8) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
thank you, always love love your video!!!
ReplyHey Stephanie! So glad you enjoyed it :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
I really happy you shared your "real life" video that included all of Vienna's early morning cuteness with us!! Love that smoothie, depite its colour! lol I'm surprised that you are taking supplements daily when you already get so much value from your diet and smoothie powders. I thought they would be unnecessary! I was taking a probiotic, and vitamin D and fish oil too but when I started maki g superfoods smoothies, I was afraid of overloading in areas that were maybe not a good idea to allow to happen.
ReplyHey Val! So glad you enjoyed the video. It seems that people are enjoying seeing more of the "real life" side of things so we're doing our best to show that! There are still a number of supplements Joy takes just because it's either difficult to get an adequate amount from diet alone (such as Vitamin D) and the reality is that our soil isn't as rich as it used to be so supplementation in some areas is still important :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Joy, I have been meaning to ask you this for ages! Do you take your probiotic at the same time as you take your omega 3, D and multi vitamins? Thanks!
ReplyHey Lindsay! Yes, for the most part she does but sometimes she'll space out the multi. She keeps a multi on her desk as well so she'll take it if she didn't have it at breakfast. Some nutrients compete with others for absorption which would be the main reason to consider spacing out your supplements but these ones typically behave well with each other. ReplyHey RJ! Totally! Isn't is just the best way to start the day?! :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Love the video! And looking forward to make this for my son and husband. My question which green I can substitute kale since I have thiroyd problems. Thank you
ReplyHey Di! :) I think your son and husband are going to love this! You could opt for spinach or swiss chard instead! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hey Joy, loved the video 😊 At what age can you start giving the Genuine Health protein powder to kiddos?
ReplyHey Seanna! So glad you enjoyed it :) Joy started giving Vienna GH protein powder around the age of 1 but Genuine Health's customer service team would likely advise not starting on it until the teen years just to be safe because there's no research behind it yet, so you kind of have to decide for yourself and what feels right :) Hope that helps! Hi! Just wondering which vitamix you have and if you would recommend it, or something else? Thanks!
ReplyHey Rebecca! Joy has the Vitamix 7500 Blender. It comes with a bit of a higher price tag than some of the others but she loves it! Hope that helps :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy! Your water bottle that you were sipping on...where could I find one of those? Thanks :)
ReplyHey Kelly! You can find it at either Winners or Homesense :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team

Sounds good.
ReplyHi Joy!! Just wondering if the greens actually go bad past the expiration date or can they still be used??
ReplyHey Aga, Nope - they are fine to eat :) It's just there to ensure quality and freshness so if you decide to eat them past the expiry date, maybe just use your judgment! Hope that helps! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Thanks for your video, Joy! I think you were about to tell us what you substitute for liquid when the smoothie will be your complete breakfast, when Vienna distracted you. I assume it would be almond or coconut milk?
ReplyHey Lois! So glad you enjoyed it :) Yes, its coconut milk. It's filled with healthy fats and makes it a much more satiating breakfast! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
The Vianna Smoothie !! 😋
ReplyHaha based upon how much she loved the smoothie, that's a very suitable name for it! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Oooh! we can use coconut water! great information. What is this Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein Powder and where can i get it. I am from Kenya. Thank you
ReplyHey Iornah, It's a delicious and super healthy plant-based protein. Unfortunately, it is not distributed in Kenya but you can also look at various online stores which sell Genuine Health products and inquire about shipping as some of them do ship internationally. One store that might be good to look into is Feel Good Natural. I hope that helps :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hi Joy! Love the video and the smoothie looks delicious! I have an 11 month old. He loves smoothies! At what age is it ok to start introducing the greens for kids and fermented protein? Thanks!
ReplyHey Vicky, So glad you enjoyed it! Genuine Health advises to integrate that Greens Kids for ages 9 and up and the Fermented Vegan Protein Powder for 12-13 and up. It is ultimately up to your discretion entirely. Joy started giving Vienna the Fermented Vegan Protein Powder at the age of 1 but we would encourage you to take this information and figure out whats best for you :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Do you think that any of these ingredients would mess with thyroid? Also, what vitamins d and fish oil do you take?
ReplyHey Angela, I would advise that you speak to your natural health care practitioner about that as it is different for everyone, depending on what medications you might be on too. Joy takes New Chapter's Wholemega and either Genestra's or AOR's Liquid Vitamin D. She doesn't advise taking Vitamin D capsules though. I hope that helps! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Joy, you have some great recipes. I was looking at the vegan powder you used in your morning smoothie. It has great ingredients in it. Then I read, if I live in the US the ingredients are totally different. Why is that? The ingredients aren't nearly as good in the US as the one listed above. Very discouraging :(.
ReplyHey Angela, Are you referring to the protein powder? That might be a better question suited for the Genuine Health Customer Service Team. You can reach out to them here: http://www.genuinehealth.com/customer-service/ Hope that helps :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
What a great morning routine! My son is 11 months old now and I feed him a green smoothie every morning! I just ordered the genuine health products- fermented vegan protein
ReplyHey Meg, Amazing! Lucky son of yours :) Hope you love the protein powder! Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Is it safe while pregnant to add in my smoothies Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein Powder?
ReplyHey Diane, Joy used it throughout her pregnancy, however we always suggest people check in with their natural health care practitioner before doing so to ensure there are no contraindications. Rachel - Joyous Health Team
What kind of coconut water do you use? I've heard a lot of information about over-processed or high heat processing of coconut water. I'm really trying to find the most benefit at a low cost if I'm going to make this smoothie daily.
ReplyHey Diana, Joy really likes Jax Coco coconut water :) Rachel - Joyous Health Team
Hey Joy, for coconut water , which brand would you suggest? also for fish oil and vitamin d supplements
ReplyThere are lots of great brands, the main thing to look for is no added sugar and no added flavour. Jax Coco is one of my favourite brands from a taste perspective. I also really like a brand that has a monkey logo but I can't remember what it's called right now.
