How to Grocery Shop Like a Nutritionist

Grocery shopping can be daunting if you don't have a plan or a list! I share my top tips for grocery shopping like a nutritionist.
Jan 4, 2019 | Joy McCarthy

When I was a little girl, I would go grocery shopping with my Mom and Dad every Saturday. First we'd go to the local fruit and veggie market and then we'd go to A&P for all the non-perishable stuff as well as meat and dairy because it was cheaper there. I loved going as a family until I was about 12 or 13 -- then I became a teenager and it just wasn't cool anymore, haha!

Grocery shopping is something I still enjoy doing to this day and I love taking Vienna with me, but I get that it's not something everyone loves! Whether you love it or not, I've got tips to make it easier for you. I may not convince you to love it, but I can help make it a wee bit more enjoyable.

In my latest video I share my top tips for grocery shopping like a nutritionist at my local health food store.

I didn't cover everything off in this single video because if I did, the video would be an hour long which is why I've got more great information on the blog for you to check out after this video such as:

I hope you enjoyed the tips in my latest video. Have a joyous day!

Hi Joy, I noticed that you put the maca powder and the genuine health gut superfood in the fridge. Do you have to put those in the fridge? I have mine in the cupboard.

Joy, this video was very helpful! Going on what Jen W. above had asked, do you have a video or article about how to store your produce correctly?

Thanks for the photo of your refrigerator, I really enjoy all your posts. Just a helpful tip, I just completed a certificate for food safety and we were taught to keep eggs in the store carton because it protects the eggs and prevents them from absorbing strong odours and flavours of other foods in your fridge through the thousands of tiny pores in the egg shell. Secondly, the Best Before Date is always visible to you so you can guarantee freshness. Thirdly; Eggs should not be stored on the refrigerator door, but in the main body of the refrigerator to ensure that they keep a consistent and cool temperature. Lastly, eggs should always be stored with the large end up, the same way they are packaged in the carton. This helps the yolk remain centered. I hope this is helpful.

Hi Joy, I think that my previous comment was cut short but just to give a shortened version, I was wondering where you got the mesh produce bags
