Since having a bun in the oven, I have been craving smoothies every morning. I think my sweet bambina must be a health nut already because she does a little dance after I slurp one down.
I feel so good knowing that every single ingredient I use is simple, whole, nourishing food. Just the way we as humans should be eating, otherwise known as “real food” or food with purpose!
It has been forever (at least since my matcha smoothie days – pre-pregnancy) since I tossed an avocado into a smoothie. I know what you’re thinking.. “foolish joy”. I agree! How could I have deserted this wonderful, buttery, fruit for months on end? Well… I’ve had my fair-share of guacamole and guac devilled eggs , as you might have noticed, so I’m still getting my avo fill in other ways.
Avos do something magical to smoothies that cannot be described in words, but it makes them uber creamy … like the kind of creamy you remmber slurping in milkshakes as a kid. The main difference here is that this smoothie isn’t full of additives!
This uber creamy smoothie serves 1 person generously or two (or 3 in my case). I normally share my smoothie with Walker.
Ingredients
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts (shelled seeds)
- 2/3 cup frozen organic raspberries
- 1 generous scoop of Greens+Kids (mixed berry)
- Water or almond milk to your desired consistency
- Optional: Schlop crunchy almond butter
- Place all your nourishing ingredients into you blender. Give it a whirl. Sip and enjoy!
No notes available.
You may have noticed I am using Greens+Kids (mixed berry). I used to add the regular Greens+O (Vegan) but since I’m pregnant, I have to avoid all the botanical ingredients in the regular greens+. The kids version has 25 organic fruits and vegetables.
It does NOT have skim milk added (in case you’re wondering why the label states that). Health Canada mandates supplement companies to list skim milk if there are probiotics in a product because they are grown on a dairy medium, not unlike the large majority of probiotics on the market today.
I hope you love this smoothie as much as I do!
Have a joyous day!
Joy

oh wow! I didn’t know you were pregnant! Congrats!!!
I just made this this morning and it’s delicious!! Mine turned out more grey than pink, should I be adding more raspberries?
Just made this today for the first time…its on the meal plan Joy made for me and oh my word its so delicious! Added the crunchy almond butter too….breakfast that tastes like dessert…yum!
Glad you’re loving it Kiren! Enjoy the rest of the meal ideas 🙂
Joy – at what point did you stop using the greens+ supplements in lieu of the kids formula? I add the Whole body & the vegan fermented protein into my shakes but if I am planning on becoming pregnant, should I stop? Thoughts appreciated!
Hi Aimee,
Joy switched when she found out she was expecting. However, some women continue to take their usual supplements throughout the course of their pregnancy. Your best bet is probably to check with a natural healthcare practitioner that specializes in fertility and pregnancy.

What can I substitute for banana?? I am not a fan of bananas at all (stinky face). Thank you
Hey Jovanna! Pineapple would be nice. It may not be as creamy as the original recipe but it will still be delicious and smooth! Rachel – Joyous Health Team
