If you’ve started a new habit of lemon and water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, then you are taking great steps to joyous health! Variety is the spice of life, so I’m delighted to share with you 2 more juice recipes because they are a fantastic way to alkalize and energize in the morning.
I recommend using real food ie. green veggies such as kale, spinach and celery instead of powders because there is nothing quite like the real thing, and I LOVE real food because it makes my joyous cells smiley. Many green powders have added fillers and preservatives to maintain shelf and prevent mold. You really don’t want this in your body if you can avoid it, and you can when you have some awesome recipes.
I juice my green goodness which makes me feel like a green goddess, at least 2-3x per week and boy do I have good energy from it!!
Green Goddess Juice Recipe
3 red kale leaves
Bunch of parsley
3 stalks of celery
Fresh ginger (as much as you like, but be careful a little goes a long way!)
1 apple
Joyous Zippy Zingy Juice
2 carrots
1/2 lemon
4-5 stalks of celery
Bunch of parsley
1 pear
1 kiwi
Directions for juicing: Place all ingredients into your juicer and voila! The perfect morning juice. Easy peasy.
Have a wonderfully joyous day!
Joy

Hi Joy,
Do I have to have a juicer to make these drinks? I would like to start drinking green drinks in the mornings, but buying a juicer is expensive and the green powders are expensive too (and don’t seem as healthy).
What if I simply put the ingredients into a blender with a bit of filtered water? Would it be just as nutritious and absorbable?
Thank you for your blog, it is a wonderfully motivating resource : )

Hi Kadie, you could put the ingredients into a blender or put them into a smoothie if you didn’t want to buy a juicer, but you won’t be able to use the same volume. The idea with juicing is the you get a maximum amount of enzymes and antioxidants that you can’t get (quantity-wise) eating that much. For example, you might juice 4 kale leaves, 3 stalks of celery, apple and ginger – you probably wouldn’t eat this much in one sitting. You can get a fairly affordable juicer for well under a hundred dollars on sale at a department store. Hope that helps thank you for your compliments and reading my blog!!

Hi Joy,
I love your blog and am feeling really inspired after spending a good hour of reading tonight!
My question regarding the green juice is similar to the ones already asked, but I haven’t been able to find anyone who can truly answer it. Also, I went to see a dietician about 2 weeks ago, and she thought green juicing was just a crazy trend, and that the apple in the juice would just spike my blood sugar ridiculously high, and she suggested I stop altogether! I obviously haven’t, because I feel so great after I drink it.
So my question is this: I blend all my ingredients (apple, ginger, fresh lemon juice, celery, cucumber, mint, and tons of greens) in my Vitamix, then strain it through a fine mesh sieve. The juice is delicious…but I wash that green slime down the sink every morning, and feel really guilty, like I should be consuming it. Yes? No? Please help!!
Hi Char,
This sounds like it would be similar to the leftover pulp you’d get from a juice, so I imagine you can use it the same way. You could use it to make a mineral-rich vegetable broth, add it to a smoothie, make cookies or raw crackers if you have a food dehydrator, or compost it.
