Now you may be thinking…. why the heck do I need to think about that over the holidays? Well, you might be surprised to know that research shows those who set New Year’s resolution goals in December are FAR MORE likely to achieve them then those who do not.

Plus, you are more likely to stay on track (you know, perhaps not have that second helping of Christmas pudding or third glass of wine) when you know you’ve committed yourself to a new joyous YOU for January!

This is why I’ve been promoting my Joyous 10-Day Detox so early. Not only am I excited to get as many people as possible detoxing so they can feel how gosh darn good it feels to begin the process of cleaning out your body, but my hope in doing this is that people continue to eat this way and change forever — yes, this IS possible!

Why Detox?

It gives your body a rest and allows elimination to flow more effectively when there is less junk coming in. Every day your body deals with toxins coming in:

Through the digestive system from food you eat (additives, chemicals, processed and refined foods, sugar, fried foods).

Through the breath and into the lungs from fragrance, city pollution, off-gassing of paint/carpet/furniture.

Through your skin from conventional lotions you slather on your body or shampoo your wash your mane with that may be full of parabens, SLS and the list is never-ending.

Through re-absorption from the toxins within your colon. If you are not eliminating efficiently (pooping 1-2x per day), then yes, those toxins will get reabsorbed back into the blood stream which can cause allergies, eczema, acne, dry skin — in a nutshell, a dirty gut is reflected on the outside. So when you have skin issues, look first within, not slathering on more chemicals or peeling a layer off (ie. cortisone creams) to show fresh new skin.

And yes, your body creates toxins and waste as a byproduct of metabolism too.

Now that you feel all dirty 😉 , hopefully you realize the importance of detoxing and follow some of these detox worthy habits:

Eating foods that enhance the function of the liver to detoxify substances more effectively. Many of my recipes are detox friendly.

Eating lots of fibre, both soluble and insoluble to gather up the toxins and help them leave the body with ease.

Drinking 1/2 freshly squeezed lemon or 2 capfuls apple cider vinegar or 1 scoop Greens+Organic in a large glass of water every single morning on an empty stomach.

Moving your beautiful body EVERY SINGLE DAY! You want to increase your heartrate which increases circulation and helps toxins leave via sweat through the skin and your breath.

BREATHE deeply.

Practice gratefulness — it lowers cortisol and allows all your body’s life-saving processes like detoxification to work more effectively.

It’s definitely true, but from what I have read, too much exercise is as bad as not enough. How should we determine when we should move and when we should rest? I guess we have to listen to our body mostly. What kind of “moving” would be good on a daily basis, that would eliminate toxins and increase blood circulation without making us exhausted? What do you think?

I agree completely Samuel — you are absolutely right, too much exercise can be inflammatory-provoking. Listening to your body is key. While detoxing I do not recommend vigorous exercise.

    Quick question….
If the detox is dairy free, what is the difference between the vegan and vegetarian option?

  5. Joy McCarthy

Correct. The detox is dairy free. There are eggs in the vegetarian option. Eggs are not dairy. Would love for you to do the detox!

  6. It’s never to late to improve your health. Even getting negative people out of your life can be seen as a detox.
