I love recipes that are both delicious and nutrient-dense, and this loaf checks all the boxes. It’s rich in fibre to support healthy digestion, contains plant-based protein and healthy fats to help keep you feeling satisfied, and is made with ingredients that nourish your body from the inside out.

This is the kind of baking recipe you can feel good about making for yourself and your family. The only problem is it won’t last long. The first time I made it, it barely lasted the day! You can see the recipe video here.
The combination of ripe bananas, wild blueberries, almond flour, oat flour, and hemp hearts creates a tender loaf that’s naturally sweet, full of flavour, and packed with nutrients.
Nourishing ingredients you’ll love

Wild blueberries are tiny but mighty! They’re naturally rich in antioxidants, including anthocyanins, which give them their beautiful deep blue-purple colour.
- Blueberries. I love using wild blueberries in baking because they add little bursts of flavour throughout the loaf. They also pair beautifully with bananas and create that classic blueberry-banana bread taste we all love. You can certainly use cultivated blueberries for this recipe, too. Try this Blueberry Hemp Muffins, they are nut-free and gluten-free.
- Bananas. Ripe bananas are one of my favourite ways to naturally sweeten baked goods. Not only do they add sweetness and moisture, but they also provide important nutrients like potassium and fibre. Using very ripe bananas (the ones with lots of brown spots!) will give this loaf the best flavour and texture because they’re naturally sweeter and easier to mash. You could certainly swap in applesauce instead of bananas if you prefer. Try this Healthy Apple Loaf.
- Hemp hearts. One of my favourite simple additions to baked goods are hemp hearts, powerful little seeds. They have a mild, nutty flavour and blend seamlessly into recipes without overpowering the other ingredients. They add plant-based protein, healthy fats, fibre, magnesium, iron, and zinc, making this loaf even more nourishing and satisfying. Try these Chocolate Chip Hemp Cookies.
- Almond flour + oat flour. This combination creates the perfect texture for this loaf. Almond flour adds healthy fats, protein, and a soft crumb, while oat flour provides fibre and a lovely hearty texture. Together, they make this loaf gluten-free and naturally satisfying. A wholesome loaf for the whole family. Try this Best-Ever Paleo Bread made with almond flour.
One of the things I love most about this recipe is that it’s made with simple, real food ingredients. No complicated steps, no refined sugar, and no need for fancy equipment.

It’s a recipe you can feel good about making for yourself and your family.

If you’re wondering about ingredient substitutions – because this is the most common question I get – please note I have not made this with any other flours. However, I have many other loaf recipes on my blog. Check these out:
